TWITTER
Sharing is caring!

Have you ever considered Twitter as an ICT tool that can be used in the classroom? Neither did I, until I heard about a teacher who used this type of social media to his advantage.

Some schools are provided with special programmes that allow teachers to communicate with their students. Either an email-like service or an online platform for students and teachers to share material. If you don't have this, however, using Twitter can be a very handy solution. Simply set up a Twitter-account for yourself and ask your students to do the same thing. Whenever you want to share a link or just a quick message. Other types of social media such as Facebook can be useful too, although Facebook may require a lot more setting up than Twitter.

Apart from communicating with students, Twitter can also be a very useful way for students to put their thoughts into a short sentence. Each tweet (message on Twitter) can only contain 140 characters, which means students have to get rid of excessive words. I once made a Twitter account for a group where one student would post a definition of a word related to the chapter we were working on. By the end of the month we had a Twitter account that contained all the material they had to study and by following the account, they had to study less for the test.

Requirements
- Internet connection
- Digital device
- Twitter account

Pros
- Easy to share information
- Great way to focus on writing short
- Very easy to set up
- Students are familiar with the concept

Cons
- Everyone needs a Twitter account
- If the account is shared, some students may post unrelated things

Have you ever used Twitter as an ICT tool? Please leave a comment!

Any suggestions for another ICT tool? Please let me know!

I am very sorry to break it to you... But going back to school is very close. For some it may take a few more weeks, while others have already started. Me personally, I start tomorrow at my new job. I am very excited!

Even though I didn't send any newsletters throughout the summer vacation, I certainly spend some time on (hopefully) making your lives a bit easier. Need to catch up? Take a look below!

Flowchart
Unsure what type of ICT tool could help you to teach your lesson? Take a look at the flowchart I created by clicking here.

Devices
Different devices work differently in teaching, which is why I started to provide information per device specifically. These pages are still under construction, but they can be found here.

Facebook and Twitter
Meanwhile the amount of people following me on Facebook and Twitter has been growing. Did you not like/follow me yet? Please consider doing so for more regular updates!

International perspective
Whilst traveling around the world this summer, I had the honour to meet a lot of wonderful teachers. They inspired me in numerous way and they taught me a lot, too. Since more than half of my followers are from outside the Netherlands now, I will post more in English than in Dutch. But don't worry! I will keep up two websites and translate all my blogs.

Next week I will start with the ICT tool per Week again. If you have any questions in the meantime, please let me know! Any feedback or input? Feel free to contact me.

I hope you've all had an amazing summer vacation and good luck with going back to school!

Kind regards,
Irene
