Another method to give instruction, is through instruction videos. This is asynchronous teaching, and is often a bit easier. A useful tool to record your own instruction videos, is through Microsoft PowerPoint. Prepare your PowerPoint like you normally would, and then click on Slideshow. In this tab – if you have PowerPoint 2016 or higher – you can select ‘record slideshow’. Once you click on this, a new window will open in which you can start the recording and click through your slides whilst talking. After you are done, you can save your PowerPoint as a video. This can then be uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo, or perhaps your school’s LMS, so that students can access the instruction.
Do you want to add questions to your video? Use a tool such as EDPuzzle or PlayPosit, which can be used to make your video interactive. You can add questions to your video ánd keep track of your students answered! Please do take your students’ privacy into account, if you choose to do this.
